while swooning over the butterfly plates from our flutter collection, it suddenly occurred to us that they could probably be used to craft a super cute halloween costume for little babes! while the plates are gorgeous on their own, we will show you how to embellish them a bit to make them a little more fancy and costume-worthy in this simple tutorial! they are one-size-fits-most (babies)...but based on the plate size, we recommend them for one and under. let’s get started, shall we?

INSTRUCTIONS
butterfly wings
STEP 1
trace your butterfly plate onto posterboard and cut it out.
STEP 2
fold your tulle in half, and glue the open side of the folded tulle around the entire edge of the posterboard butterfly using tacky glue. it will stay in place best after step 3!
STEP 3
use tacky glue to attach party streamers to the entire edge of the posterboard butterfly, right on top of the tulle. push it down firmly, to hold the tulle in place as well. allow to dry.
STEP 4
use a hole punch to place two holes at the top of each posterboard wing, a little over an inch apart. cut your ribbon into two strips about 48 inches long, and string one through the holes on each side, so that the tails are hanging in the back, and there is a small loop on the front. tie each ribbon in a knot at the middle, on the back of the wings.
STEP 5
glue your butterfly plate to the front of the posterboard wings, with the tulle and streamers showing around all edges. allow to dry. now you’re ready to wrap the ribbons under your baby’s armpit, and tie a bow near the shoulder on both sides.
antennae
STEP 1
use a sponge brush to cover two styrofoam balls in tacky glue, and then cover in glitter. allow to dry, and shake off any excess.
STEP 2
fold your pipe cleaner in half over the headband to one side, and twist together until it is firmly in place. repeat with a second pipe cleaner on the other side of the headband.
STEP 3
cut each pipe cleaner down to about 3 inches. poke the pipe cleaners through the styrofoam balls until they stay in place, and so that you have one on each side.
your little butterfly is ready to fly! happy halloween!
